Matches week 40

Unfortunately, we can't watch each others games anymore. So, we've asked the team to write a little story about their matches. This way we can still be there, somehow. Below you can read summaries of all Kroton matches that were played in week 39, so that you still have the feeling that you were there! Be sure to check this page regularly as it is often updated with new match summaries!

Men's 1

Today we were going to Friesland for our first cup match against Volleyballclub Surhuisterveen HS1. After quite a few complaints that we had to drive all the way to Friesland and such cup matches could never be played closer, fortunately three cars were arranged to transport us. After we showed our opponent that we can also play a nice game of basketball, our match started. Our serves went well this match, even though we got the balls back a few times. Fortunately, Tobias was still tying his shoes during our serve, so that the opponent served out nicely. Furthermore, the opponent was of course again impressed by our strong attackers and Dusan's impressive serve. (If you ask nicely, he might want to show you.) After a smooth 0-3 we were done within an hour and got back into the cars quickly. On the way back Vincent showed what it is like to drive rally. (Only in fokking Friesland.) Fortunately he had taken his companions with him to free him from the mud. Stories go that he took the broken bumper in the trunk and taped it back home with duct tape.

We look forward to our next cup match. Hopefully a bit closer ...

V.C.S. HS1 vs. Kroton HS1: 0-3

This Saturday we went to play in Oldehove against an old foe named Voklubol, some teamies went by bus under the guidance of Jelly, which in hindsight is always a bad idea. He already managed to lose the car to go to our cup match and this time he lead us to the wrong bus stop, but at least we managed to befriend some very cool cows. After the treacherous walking journey we finally arrived to the land in the middle of nowhere. Some toilets were destroyed but the team was finally ready to get their next win. The first set was won easily by the men of Kroton giving the right momentum also to win the second set. The third set was a bit more of a battle, after starting out strong the opponent rallied back and was leading 24-20 when it was time for Massi to serve, Massi has a reputation of missing about 50% of his serves so we were all desperate for a miracle. The serves were uncommonly steady and a dramatic tie break ensued, frankly the team was mostly scared for Dusan and his heart, but everyone kept their cool and as always, your favourite team came up with a glorious win. After destroying our opponents fighting spirit in the third set the fourth set went rather smoothly, excluding the fact that Massi slammed the ball into one poor opponents face, who went furious as he almost broke his new glasses. Overall, the team was very satisfied with their match and as always will look forward to defeating their next opponent.

Set 1: 12-25
Set 2: 19-25
Set 3: 27-29
Set 4: 18-25

P.S. Look out for a live stream at our next match

Voklubol HS1 vs. Kroton HS1: 0-4

Women's 2

The first home game day match of the season was planned. We were full of enthusiasm and eager to win, especially after last week's sad match that we won't talk about anymore (something with scoring more points and still end up losing the game). While wearing mouth masks, we were awaiting our opponents. Their average age was slightly higher, but as said ‘’age is just a number’’. That was evident from this match. A nice game with many rallies, we were exhausted. Fortunately, our substitute coach Maarten dragged us through  it all with his enthusiasm. Final score: 4-0 won, lekkah bezig. Also, the set positions, because that is nice to mention:

Set 1: 25 - 23

Set 2: 25 - 21

Set 3: 25 - 19

Set 4: 25 - 23

As you can see, it was a worthy opponent. Still we won, well done.

Kroton DS2 vs. De Gave DS1: 4-0

Women's 1

Saturday October 3 we played our first home game of the season !!  Dovo was willing to travel to the ACLO to be defeated.  Besides the board and the usher, the room was quite empty.  But we did not want the usual home game day atmosphere to be taken away!  Merijn came back from Solow with not one, but two air horns!  Dovo chose the side furthest out from the door because of the draft.  They should not have done so, as this just stimulated us to use those air horns even more to keep warm.
In addition, Rebecca, head of socials, had started a live stream, because we understand that no one wants to miss our beautiful games.  With the thought of the support from behind the laptops, we started the fight against D1 from Doezum!
For the extensive match report: send a member of D1 a message and who knows, you may be added to the facebook group to watch the livestream, including comments.
For the less detailed match report:
We have shown a nice game of our own, but there is still room for improvement.  One thing is for sure, we will not be easily defeated in our home arena this season.  We look forward to the next game!
 Final score 3-1.
Set 1: Sanne, Merijn, Rebecca, Carien, Alyssa, Anna, Josta
Set 2: Sanne, Merijn, Rebecca, Carien, Alyssa, Anna, Josta
Set 3: Natacha, Merijn, Rebecca, Antonia, Gerbrig, Anna, Josta
Set 4: Natacha, Merijn, Carien, Antonia, Gerbrig Alyssa, Josta

Kroton DS1 vs. Dovo/Hujades DS1: 3-1

Women's 3

A new match means new opportunities for our outside attackers to play on another position! Last two matches we had an outside playing on diagonal and one on middle. This Saturday it was Eva's turn to shine on libero, because Emma (and Marloes) were in quarantine... We started with confidence against Rovoc D1, because our coach Antonia had insight information (D1 played them for the cup last Thursday). It was a very exciting match, once again, and barely lost the first two sets. The third set we were on fire, and won that one with a big difference! We started the fourth set with good service pressure, but allowed the opponent to come back into the game. It was a nervewrecking fourth set and fought for the final points, but Rovoc won with 25-27. On the bright side, we won if you look at the points (95-92), but unfortunately that is not how volleyball works... For the next match? I think that Marloes has to play as a setter.

Kroton DS3 vs. Rovoc DS1: 1-3

Heren 3

Awoken in the early hours of the morning (around 10:30) by Victor spamming his motivational all caps speech in the group chat, the absolute units of H3 showed up at the ACLO sports centre ready to get their second victory ever. The tale of our first victory had already spread and we could see that the few attending spectators (damn you corona) eagerly awaiting our next victory. After a slight panic attack involving a missing #8 shirt and a quick photo session, we got down to business. The first set ended up in our favour with a nice and smooth 25-21. The second set also ended up in our favour with an even smoother 25-16. We started getting worried – if we played too well, people would get suspicious that we were actually good at the game. So, our wise coach Anne told us how proud she was of our play and to keep it up. Like clockwork, we instantly regressed to our old winless state and our opponents Rovoc H3 successfully managed to get a set out of us – 22-25. With all suspicions averted and Anne’s eternal wraith once again looming over us, we took the fourth and last set with another 25-21 in the name of our dear pet snake Kuss, who was watching via Facetime. And we lived happily ever after.

The end.

Kroton HS3 vs. Rovoc HS3: 3-1
